George Lewis: improvised trombone and interactive music
Don Ritter: imagery and interactive video

Nose Against Glass was the first interactive video-music performance presented by Lewis and Ritter. The performance featured interactive music and a large video projection controlled by Lewis's improvisational trombone playing. The interactive video software created by Ritter for the performance--known as Orpheus--and the interactive music software created by Lewis--known as Voyager--were artificial intelligence softwares, as both were rule-based expert systems. The public performance was created within Ritter's graduate course on interactive music systems at the MIT Media Lab, taught by composer and inventor Tod Machover. During his graduate studies at MIT, Ritter also studied artificial intelligence under AI pioneer Marvin Minsky.

Between 1988 and 1991, Lewis and Ritter presented over 20 interactive video and music performances at venues in United States, Canada and Italy, including the Kitchen(New York), Art Institute of Chicago, New Music America 89(New York), Festival International Musique Actuelle Victoriaville, and the Verona Jazz Festival(Italy).
